Budva Ancient Necropolis

Beside Hotel Avala, Budva

Visit duration
20–30 minutes
The ancient necropolis near the Avala area is a reminder that Budva has layers of history much older than today’s holiday resort. For fuller context, combine this site with Budva Town Museum and its archaeological collection.

Useful tip

View the site as part of the town’s wider archaeological story, rather than as a standalone open-air museum.

Budva Old Town

Budva Old Town

The Old Town is the most concentrated part of Budva for walking, history and an evening out. Ramparts, squares, churches, museums and small streets make it a good starting point, whether you are visiting for the first time or have only a few hours.

Budva Citadel

Budva Citadel

The Citadel, formerly Kaštel Fortress, is in the southern and highest part of the Old Town. It completes the circuit of town ramparts and offers a good view of the coast and the roofs of the historic centre.

Budva Town Walls

Budva Town Walls

The Old Town ramparts shape Budva’s distinctive silhouette and connect towers, gates and the fortress. They make most sense as part of a visit to the historic centre, together with the Citadel and the waterfront beside Ričardova glava.

Budva Town Museum

Budva Town Museum

Budva Town Museum is in a 19th-century house in the Old Town. Permanent archaeological and ethnographic exhibitions help put a walk around town into a wider context, while the lapidarium on the ground floor is particularly interesting for a short visit.

Stefan Mitrov Ljubiša Memorial House

The memorial house preserves the memory of Budva writer and politician Stefan Mitrov Ljubiša in the house where he was born. It is a small but substantive stop for visitors interested in the town’s cultural story as well as its scenery.
